Applying for HKPS membership
For new applications for Graduate Membership or Associate Fellowship, please prepare the following:
Graduate Member
Applications for Graduate Membership are open to individuals who have completed undergraduate level of study in Psychology.

Requirements:

A Bachelors or Masters degree, majoring in a field of Psychology, taking no less than 8 courses in different areas of psychology.
The 8 areas must include:
1) Research Methods in Psychology
2) At least 4 out of the 6 following fundamental areas:

  • a) Biological / Physiological Psychology
  • b) Developmental / Child Psychology
  • c) Cognitive Psychology / Perception / Learning / Memory
  • d) Personality / Individual Differences
  • e) Social Psychology
  • f) History of Psychology / Contemporary Issues in Psychology / Research project or thesis


Applicants must obtain a minimum of lower 2nd class honours, or a GPA equivalent to 3.0 out of 4.0.


The programme must be campus-based, where the teaching and learning activities are primarily conducted on campus, with the active presence and participation of both instructors and students from the same tertiary educational institution. As such, HKPS generally does not accept distance learning, self-taught, self-study, or online psychology programmes, or any programmes of a similar nature, for HKPS membership application.


A Bachelor's degree in psychology from Australia has to be an APAC-accredited 4-year programme (i.e. including the Honours year)

Associate Fellow
Associate fellowship is a higher level of membership for recognising those who have completed further academic study in psychology and have gained practical work experience. New applicants who meet the requirements may apply directly to become an Associate Fellow.

Requirements:

Fully meet the criteria for Graduate Membership, plus a further Master or above degree in a field of psychology covering courses at a more advanced level than the fundamental areas required for Graduate Membership.


The programme must be campus- based, where the teaching and learning activities are primarily conducted on campus, with the active presence and participation of both instructors and students from the same tertiary educational institution. As such, HKPS generally does not accept distance learning, self-taught, self-study, or online psychology programmes, or any programmes of a similar nature, for HKPS membership application.


3 years full-time or equivalent of relevant post-qualification working experience.

Associate Fellow (upgrade from Graduate Member)
Existing Graduate Members of HKPS may apply to become an Associate Fellow. No application fees are required.
Affiliate
Application for Affiliateship is open to those who have a long-standing interest or professional association with psychology. There are no specific qualification requirements for Affiliateship.

Affiliates receive emails from our mailing list and are welcome to attend most training events. Affiliates are not members of the Society, and shall not represent themselves as such. Affiliates are not bound by the Society’s Code of Professional Conduct, and the Society does not seek to uphold Affiliates’ adherence to the Code.
